The 2003-2004 Dean’s Council met during Activity Period
on Thursday, January 22, 2004 in Room D-24.
Dr. Marc Tarplee, Dean of the Industrial and Engineering Technologies
Division, introduced himself to council members and welcomed them to the
meeting. Dr. Tarplee explained that
the Dean’s Council provides students with an opportunity to take part in the
management of the Division by voicing their opinions and concerns, as well as by
offering recommendations on how the College may better serve its students.
Dean’s council members also serve as representatives for their
classmates.
Dr. Tarplee followed up on unresolved issues raised during the fall meeting.
Dr. Tarplee said that he has discussed the content of EEM-117 with the instructors who will add more examples relevant to the ACR programs.
Dr. Tarplee advised Mr. Wolfgang that at the present time there is no practical way to survey students about a particular course after they have left it. He suggested that the students make comments about their lack of preparation on the survey instrument of the course that they are currently in.
Dr. Tarplee reported that it will not be necessary for teleproduction students to purchase a $250-$300 camera to use in a photography class. Cameras will be made available for students to borrow on a first-come-first-served basis.
The crosswalk between A Building and the new ST Building has been repainted.
Dr. Tarplee thanked the students for participating on the Dean’s Council, and for sharing their thoughts and concerns with him. He asked for students’ email addresses so that he could follow up with them on issues raised during the meeting. Dr. Tarplee welcomed students to stop by his office in Room D-19 should they want to discuss anything or have questions. No appointment is necessary. Students can also reach Dr. Tarplee by phone at 327.8017, or by email at mtarplee@yorktech.com.
The meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marc Tarplee
