Desire2Learn Frequently Asked Questions

Student Problem: I have a student that cannot open a 97-2003 Word document in the "Content" area but, can open them in Drop-box. When she tries to open them in the "Content" it tells her that her login has expired. Her security settings are ok. What could be the problem?

Response: This issue can usually be resolved by clearing the Browsers Internet Cache and adding d2l.yorktech.edu as a trusted site. Tool bar on IE/Delete Browsing History

Student Problem: When I try to open my instructor's files in my course content "nothing" happens.

Student Problem: When I click on a link I get “secure and nonsecure” or “can’t navigate to this page” message.

Response: Go to the tool bar on IE/Internet Options/Security Tab/highlight Trusted Site/Custom settings button/Misc (go to the bottom of the list) Websites in less privileged web content and Enable.

Student: I keep receiving the following error when I try to send anything to my instructor. I get an error 500. What is wrong.

Answer: Email is limited to 1 MB total. If you are sending more than 1MB the system will return this error.

Student: When I try to look at links my instructor has in his/hers course I get an error message "Navigation to this page is Cancelled." What do I do?

Answer: To protect your security, Internet Explorer 7 blocks Web sites that display non-secure content. If this is happening on your computer, you will see a "navigation cancelled" error message or a bar will appear above your address bar that states: "To help protect your security Internet Explorer has blocked this web site from displaying non-secure content.

If you click that message box, you can then click "Display blocked content" and the Web site will appear.

For a more permanent solution follow the steps below:

  1. Click Tools on the top of your Internet Explorer screen.
  2. Click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click the Internet icon.
  5. Click Custom level.
