Overview

Efficient heating and air conditioning is no longer a luxury.  All new construction, whether residential, commercial or industrial, now requires heating, air conditioning or refrigeration equipment.  Precisely controlled air conditioning in buildings is a must for computers, high-technology machinery and many industrial processes.

The Air Conditioning Department offers five programs: three Certificate programs, a Diploma program, and a General Technology Degree program with a concentration in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Mechanics.

The graduate will find numerous opportunities for work as a designer, installer, or technician of residential, commercial or industrial equipment.  Current job market conditions are excellent for graduates of all five programs.  Approximately 20,000 new individuals are needed each year to fill designer, installer, and technician positions. In addition, starting salaries are excellent! Typically, a graduate with an Associate Degree will see average starting salaries in the $12.00 to $18.00 per hour range. These salary figures are based on an individual who has no prior experience in the field. Naturally, if you have work experience, you could possibly find the starting salaries to be higher.
