Advisory Committee Meeting
September 19, 2002
The ACR Advisory Committee met on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. in Building C, the Founders Federal Credit Union Conference Room at York Technical College. The following members were present: John Bratton, Smith's Heating and Air; Barry Faulkner, Smith's Heating and Air, Tony Todd, R.E. Michael Company, Inc., Rod Trump, ACR Department Manager and Sonny Roach, ACR Instructor. The following individuals were unable to attend: Larry Gregory, C.C. Dickson Co.; Sam Pardue, Sam's Repair Incorporated; Tim O'Brien, Panther Heating and Cooling, Inc.; Pete Carroll, BB&T Refrigeration, Inc.; Benny Etters, Airtek.
Rod Trump served as chairperson in Larry Gregory's absence. Following a light meal, Mr. Trump called the meeting to order. Minutes of the March 28, 2002 meeting were distributed. A motion for approval of the minutes was made by Mr. Trump and seconded by Mr. Roach.
Old Business:
The committee proposed curriculum changes. It was suggested that certificate programs be designed, which students could complete in shorter time periods, and apply certificate coursework towards a diploma or degree.
Tony Todd asked if evening students have the opportunity to take residential heat load and heat pump classes. Rod Trump replied that evening classes were not offered currently.
Classroom D-20 has been converted to a smart classroom and a computer lab has been installed in classroom D-18 as recommended by the committee during the last meeting.
New Business:
Mr. Trump explained the ICE exam to the committee, and stated that York Technical College would soon require all ACR students to take the exam, which is required for PAHRA accreditation. ICE exams will be offered on the following dates and times: February 27, 2003, 9:30 a.m.; May 6, 2003, 3:30 p.m.; July 31, 2003, 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Todd asked if flyers with information on the NATE exam could be printed and displayed in supply houses. Mr. Trump said that he would make a flyer.
Mr. Trump stated that the Industrial Maintenance Department might take over teaching the electrical courses for the Air Conditioning and Industrial Maintenance programs.
Mr. Trump requested help in obtaining a two-ton air handler to build an airflow trainer. Mr. Todd said he would look into the matter.
Mr. Todd recommended the Department purchase an oil pack to implement into the curriculum. John Bratton and Barry Faulkner both agreed that the technology would benefit students.
Mr. Trump conducted an evaluation of the standards for the advisory committee as defined in the Advisory Committee Handbook.
The committee decided to meet again on March 13, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. in the Founders Credit Union Conference Room.
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
